About this Guide
The Ilfracombe Access Group is a voluntary group working to improve access for residents and visitors alike. This is done through maintaining contact with local authorities, those with buildings open to the public and other relevant organisations.
This first edition of the Ilfracombe Access Guide contains a representative sample only of the facilities and services available in Ilfracombe. All those with symbols have signed up to the Ilfracombe Access Charter.
Ilfracombe is a stunning coastal town, set between the Exmoor National Park to the east and golden sands with surfing beaches to the west. You can download a choice of walks around Ilfracombe from PhotoTrails website.
Ilfracombe is a town with bustling shops, independent high street retailers providing you with choice and quality as well as regular farmers' markets. There are also two supermarkets providing you with further choice. The heritage harbour and quay are spectacular. The many pubs, restaurants and shops that surround the Quay area create a friendly continental atmosphere.
Our quality accommodation provides you with a choice of hotels, guesthouses, bed and breakfast, self catering plus camping, caravan and holiday park options.
Ilfracombe is largely built over the rolling and sometimes steep hills of the North Devon coast, consequently there are some physical limitations to accessibility. However, the seafront and harbour areas are generally level as is the High Street.
Getting Around Ilfracombe
The Volunteer Centre provides the loan of manual, powered wheelchairs or electric scooters to help anyone, local, visitor or tourist with limited mobility to shop and enjoy the facilities of Ilfracombe. Wheelchairs can also be borrowed for your holidays. There is no set charge, but we do accept donations.
